Saturday morning saw all the 2WD finals going on at EOS in Hann. Münden and all drivers had to start early in to the day. The first Stock Truck and Stock Buggy A-Main had been already on the line on a very late Friday evening. Read our A-Main report to find out what happened in Daun in the 2WD classes, right before the 4WD portion of the event started on Saturday afternoon!

2WD Modified Buggy

Orlowski confirms his great form and wins highly competitive 2WD class

A1- Michal Orlowski launched his Schumacher Cougar LD3 off the line in A1 and had a clean run from start to finish. Bartosz Zalewski and Joona Haatanen followed him in striking distance. Haatanen looked very fast and posted the fastest lap in A1 with a 18,322 but he did not find a way around the Xray of Zalewski. After Haatanen touched Zalewski in lap 9, he had to wait for Zalewski t let him by again. Orlowski had a massive gap after this “coming together”,and had to stay focussed to not make a silly mistake. He got the job done and took A1 ahead of Zalewski and the Team Associated trio of Haatanen, Kaerup, and Landen.

A2- The second A-Main was almost a copy of A1. Zalewski was able to match the pace of Orlowski for three laps until he dropped back to P5 after a small bubble. Orlowski switched into cruise control and drove home a well-deserved overall win. Marcus Kaerup tried all he could to close the gap, but had to settle for second with his Associated teammate Joona Haatanen right in tow.

A3- The fight for the remaining podium spots was intense in A3 and Zalewski was leading with Haatanen all over him in the first laps. Haatanen drove carefully and Zalewski opened a small gap until he crashed his Xray buggy into the barrier coming onto the straightway in lap 8. Haatanen went by and was leading the race now. Zalewski tried to come back to the rear bumper of Haatanen`s B7 but he ran out of time and finished second. Haatanen`s win in A3 earned him to second place overall and Zalewski finished third on the podium after a great 2WD race!

Fun Fact: The young generation is on the move. When we tell you that Burak Kilic and Michal Orlowski had been the oldest drivers in the 2WD A-Main, you can see that the young generation is doing fine in the world of 1:10 scale electric offroad racing!

2WD Stock Buggy

Schumacher driver Pauwels victorious at the Sporthotel Grafenwald

A1- Top qualifier Senne Pauwels was on a mission in the opening leg of the 2WD Stock Buggy finals. He posted the fastest lap of the race, had a gap of 8 (!) seconds over the rest of the field, and stamped some kind of authority onto this race. Second place starter Mick Burbach (Xray) was running ahead of Piotr Stankiewicz until he rolled it over in lap eight which allowed Stankiewicz to went by. The top 5 finishing order in A1 was: Pauwels, Stankiewicz, Burbach, Woods, and Waitz (who drove from P10 on the grid to P5).

A2- Nobody was able to fight with TQ Senne Pauwels for the win in A2. Pauwels saw Mick Burbach charging hard behind him in the opening lap of the run, but Burbach`s pressure was only for a moment as he made a mistake on the corner table and dropped all the way back to the end of the field. Senne Pauwels had everything under control and took the win in A2 and the overall victory in the 2WD Stock Buggy class. Piotr Stankiewicz finished second again in A2 with Daniel Hofmann, Daniel Ortiz, and Mike Hansen in the top 5. Congratulations to Senne Pauwels for a well-deserved EOS race win!

A3– After race winner Senne Pauwels was not racing in A3, Mick Burbach had the chance to win the heat from pole position and to secure second place overall. But Burbach made another “lap 1” mistake in A3 which cost him some positions in the end. Piotr Stankiewicz took the lead and the win in A3 which let him step onto the second spot of the podium. Daniel Ortiz from Spain finished second in A3 and grabbed the last podium position from seventh on the grid – great job Daniel.

Stock Truck

Hansen takes close “last-minute win”

A1- The first of the three Stock Truck A-Mains was on the line on Friday evening. Top qualifier Christian Wukonig had a clean start and was leading the race, until he made a mistake in lap 6 where he lost three seconds – and his lead. Second place starter Marco Briers took full advantage of it and jumped into the lead. Marco was not looking back anymore and took a well deserved win in A1 ahead of Mike Hansen and Nick Vranckx.

A2- After making a costly mistake in A1, pole sitter Christian Wukonig had to face another tough run in A2. Wukonig was leading the race until he made another mistake. He lost his race lead in lap 8 and it was Mike Hansen who earned it. Hansen crossed the finish line in first place after four minutes and was followed by Wukonig, Zalewski, Trella, and Wimberger. The battle for the overall win went down to the line in A3 with Wukonig, Briers, and Hansen having the best chances to seal the deal!

A3- Wukonig was leading the last final and everything looked good for him. A win in A3 would have secured the overall win for our Stock Truck top qualifier. But this set of triple A-Mains was not going to Wukonig`s favour after he made another costly mistake on the corner tabletop in the penultimate lap. Mike Hansen took full advantage of it and drove to the overall win in Daun. Congratulations to all A-Main drivers – you all did an amazing job!
