4WD A-Main Report, EOS Hann. Münden 2023

The biggest ever EOS race is HISTORY…. And what a weekend it was!
Sunday was the ultimate “final” day of two amazing weeks of RC racing in Daun. The ETS was here with 370 entries last week, followed by the biggest ever EOS race with 530 entries over this past weekend.
We like to say THANK YOU to everybody for coming – it was a pleasure for us. Another shout out goes to every single helping hand which was involved in these two events. Thank you to the track crew from Race Stars Poland. Without you guys we couldn`t have done it.
Thank you also to the Sporthotel Grafenwald in Daun for their hospitality, and to our sponsors Schumacher, Swork`z, LRP, GensAce, Power HD, and ToniSport.

Now it is time to tell you what happened in the triple finals on Sunday!

4WD Modified Buggy

Kaerup wins epic 4WD showDAUN in Germany

A1- The first A-Main was a great display for our sport. Marcus Kaerup had a good start off the line with his Team Associated buggy and was leading the field around the track. Michal Orlowski (Schumacher) was right behind him and very close to the rear bumper of Kaerup around lap 4 and 5. Orlowski was hard on the brakes one time on the corner table on the left side of the track where he seemed to be a bit quicker than Kaerup. In lap 7, everything changed when Orlowski made a mistake coming onto the main straight. Orlowski rolled it over and dropped back to fourth position behind Zalewski and Johansson. Kaerup had a big lead after the Orlowski incident and took a well-deserved win in A1.

A2– After we had seen a fantastic A1, the second final was EVEN BETTER. Pole sitter Marcus Kaerup had a good start and Michal Orlowski was right behind him. Kaerup opened a small gap in the beginning, but Orlowski was able to come closer again after 3 laps. Kaerup got the double jump before the table top a little wrong and was struggling as Orlowski took advantage and made an nice inside move before the exit onto the straightway.

The next three laps saw Kaerup pushing like hell behind Orlowski, and it almost looked like a touring car race as these guys had been so close to each other. Bartosz Zalewski was also in the mix and drove right behind Kaerup in lap 7. As Kaerup was hitting the orange pipe coming onto the tabletop, Zalewski could not break anymore and Kaerup`s car flipped. Zalewski and Haatanen went by and Orlowski had some breathing room out front.

Haatanen was now chasing Zalewski and in the last lap, Zalewski went a little wide in the long left turn all the way in the back of the track. Haatanen reacted quickly and went to the inside – a great move from the Finn. Orlowski took the win in a spectacular second A-Main ahead of Haatanen, Zalewski, Johansson, and Hall. Marcus Kaerup was not able to recover anymore and finished only in P8. A great show of racing saw the decision for the overall win coming down to the line in A3.

A3- The craziness continued in A3. Kaerup was leading off the line with Orlowski and Zalewski right in tow. When Orlowski jumped one of the doubles to short, Zalewski went by and took second. He was now hunting down race leader Kaerup and came closer and closer as his buggy was “right on the money”. Zalewski was hard on the binders behind Kaerup after the tabletop in lap 8 and showed what a respectful driver he is.
In lap 10, the spectators held their breath as Kaerup touched the board and went a little wide before the hairpin in the infield section. Zalewski was on the inside and the buggies touched. Kaerup rolled over and could luckily continue in first place as Zalewski waited for him “fair, and like a real champion”. It was not an unfair move from Zalewski and he maybe could have continue his run but he decided quickly to wait for Kaerup – a HUGE moment!

The running order remained the same: Kaerup, Zalewski, and Orlowski as we entered the last 45 seconds of the race. As the top 3 drove their last lap of the weekend, Zalewski touched the barrier before one of the double jumps and could not jump it properly. This allowed Orlowski to takte back second place behind race winner Kaerup. Marcus Kaerup crossed the line under the immense applause of the audience and celebrated his victory together with his Team Associated teammates. Orlowski had to settle for second overall and Zalewski made another podium this weekend (after achieving the same in 2WD) and took third place.

4WD Stock Buggy

Burbach wins from Waitz and Hofmann

A1- Mick Burback started from pole position with Aaron Waitz right in tow. When Burbach crashed in lap 2, Waitz went by and took over the lead. Daniel Hofman was in second place and followed Waitz a second behind for the entire run. Waitz had everything under control until he was on his victory lap. Coming onto the main straight, Waitz was hitting the barrier and Hofman was able to take full advantage out of it. Hofman won A1 from third on the grid ahead of unlucky Aaron Waitz and Louis Mobers who made it from seventh on the grid up to P3.

A2- After a bad A1, Mick Burbach took the win in A2. Aaron Waitz lost his car in lap one and dropped back to fifth place. Mick Burbach was in control of the race all time and had a huge gap of 8 seconds in the end. He won the race ahead of Mike Hansen, Piotr Stankiewicz, and Daniel Hofmann. With Burbach and Waitz both having a win after A2, the overall victory in the 4WD Stock Buggy class was up for grabs in the last and deciding final of the day!

A3- The win was up for grabs between TQ Burbach, Aaron Waitz, and Daniel Hofman. The lead changed a several times during the run between Burbach and Waitz, but Mick Burbach could bring home the win in the 4WD class with his Xray buggy in front of his teammate Aaron Waitz. Mike Hansen took P4 overall and yound Louis Mobers finished on a very strong fifth position!

Modified Truck

Bayer wins Modified Truck class for Xray

A1- The first Modified Truck A-Main was amazing to watch. TQ Martin Bayer, Jörn Neumann, Micha Widmaier, and Max Götzl were putting on a great show of driving. Neumann was all over Bayer for many laps but Bayer was defending his position really good – until he made a mistake in the last lap of the trace. Neumann took the lead and won A1 ahead of Bayer, Götzl, Kilic, and Widmaier.

A2- Martin Bayer took the win in A2 from wire to wire. Bayer had Neumann in his rear-view mirror for a long time until Neumann crashed his truck. Berkan Kilic moved up to second spot and finished behind Bayer and in front of Neumann, van Helmond, and Widmaier.

A3- Jörn Neumann was pushing TQ Martin Bayer around the track and they had a nice fight for the win. Micha Widmaier also had a chance for the victory and was always sitting in third place behind them. When Neumann jumped a double jump short in lap 9, Widmaier went by and was the no.1 hunter of Martin Bayer now. Widmaier was all over Bayer in the last laps but the Xray driver was standing his ground and took a well deserved win in the Modified Truck class.
